Maria Phillips
Program Manager
The daughter of a proud American and Veteran, Maria's father interrupted his education as a result of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, waived his college deferment and enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He was a First Lieutenant in the 401st Bombardment Group, and flew as navigator of the lead B-17. After 25 missions over Germany and five over France and Belgium he was decorated and honorably discharged at the end of World War II. Upon returning to the United States, he earned his medical degree, became a husband, a father and was a leader in the community.
Maria’s father struggled with -Battle Fatigue or Shell Shock- rightfully renamed as a medical diagnosis called PTSD and/or TBI. Self-proclaimed collateral damage of parental Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury, Maria knows firsthand the sorrows kids have dealing with this issue.
